Its with a great deal of sadness that we are announcing the closure of the worlds first dedicated cannabis/hemp news portal.CannaZine Cannabis News came online in February 2007, to fill a niche which no other website in the world was creating material for. Namely the political wranglings which have surrounded cannabis and hemp for last 80-some odd years.From humble beginnings the CannaZine soon garnered a huge following, peaking at a heady 50,000 visitors a month not long after we became the first European dedicated cannabis news service to be syndicated by the giant Google News machine.To put things into some sort of perspective thats more readers than your average bi-monthly magazine.

With the Obama administration pledging to take a hands-off approach to state medical marijuana laws, more states may make it legal for patients to use the drug, which doctors sometimes recommend to treat symptoms such as pain and nausea.New Hampshire’s state House passed a medical marijuana bill on Wednesday, USA Today reports. A similar bill failed a few years back.A New Jersey bill passed the state senate last month, a Minnesota bill passed a state House panel earlier this week and both houses of Illinois’s legislature are considering a bill, USAT says.

This time, opponents worry that it might actually catch fire.Twin measures before the Illinois House and Senate would allow patients to use marijuana to alleviate chronic pain and nausea when other treatments have failed. The list of conditions includes cancer, glaucoma, HIV-AIDS, hepatitis C, Crohn's disease and Alzheimer's.

Entrepreneur hopes to bring medical marijuana to Nunavut

A northern entrepreneur wants to start offering medical marijuana to residents of Nunavut.Ed Devries has applied for a business license in Iqaluit and says he plans to open a store so people with medical conditions can gain access to high quality marijuana. I believe that the individual has a right to have this medicine available to them, said Devries.

With its spectacular bay and stunning, snowcapped peaks, Vancouver easily ranks as one of the world's most beautiful cities. But in recent months, the people of Canada's Olympic city have been living in fear.Even as Vancouver prepares to host the 2010 Winter Games, its crime rate is going up. Since January alone, there have been 45 shootings in the region, 17 of them fatal. There were 58 murders last year in this region of 2.7 million people, up from 41 the year before, according to the regional Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Prisoners in Scottish jails should all face mandatory drug testing, according to the Conservatives.The Scottish Conservatives leader, Annabel Goldie, made the call as new figures revealed about half of inmates were not screened. Wanna buy some weed ? Shh..the prisoners might be listening Ms Goldie said the official figures showed an alarming disparity across the prison service. The Scottish Government said it had invested in technology to detect illegal drugs being brought into jails.

A drug dealer caught with more than 200,000 ecstasy tablets in the boot of a car is facing jail.Dean Dickson, 37, of Perth Road, Dundee, admitted at the Old Bailey to possession of the class A drug with intent to supply.
