Once upon a time any talk of marijuana would be followed by either an arrest count, or even worse still a body count.But March 31st 2009 witnessed an occurrence which would ultimately change the face of marijuana news for ever. The State Senate approved legislation to make New Hampshire the 14th state to make it legal for chronically or terminally ill to use marijuana.The 14-10 vote sends the measure to the House of Representatives that approved its own version last month. It permits a patient or designated caregiver to possess up to two ounces and six plants.


Medical marijuana clubs in unincorporated San Mateo County will be required to obtain a license from the county under a new ordinance passed Tuesday by the board of supervisors.The supervisors said they wanted to lay out conditions for the cooperatives that would curb any illegal activity while still allowing for the distribution of medical marijuana, which was legalized in California in 1996 by Proposition 215.


More than 60 religious leaders throughout the state are calling for the passage of SB 1381, which would allow seriously ill patients to use medical marijuana with a physician's recommendation. The Senate must vote on the bill before an April 30 deadline.Denominations with official positions supporting medical marijuana include the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church (USA), Union for Reform Judaism, Unitarian Universalist Association, Episcopal Church, and United Church of Christ.

While it was thought that the internationally approved gold standard treatment was sufficient to control obstructive sleep apnoea and its dangerous consequences, a major French study shortly to be published in the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) will certainly set the cat among the pigeons.Approximately 10% of the subjects given the approved treatment continue to suffer from daytime sleepiness, according to the study based on results from over 500 patients in some forty sleep study centres. This would mean over 14,000 patients affected in France alone and some half million people globally. The authors emphasise that there is an urgent need to identify these patients and provide other associated treatments.
