Anyone who spent anytime growing up in the Roath area of cardiff is bound to have happy memories of queueing up outside The Globe cinema on a rainy wednesday night, waiting to get in to see the latest blockbuster of the moment. I watched massive films of the time there, including Saturday Night Fever, Grease, Quadraphenia, Abba - The Movie etc, amongst a great many others.
Shamed Wales second row Alun-Wyn Jones keeps his place for Saturday's RBS 6 nations match between Wales and Scotland at the Millenium Stadium, but coach Warren Gatland has made changes elsewhere in the line-up.Jones came in for widespread criticism after being sin-binned for a needless trip on England's Dylan Hartley in last weekend's humiliating 30-17 defeat at Twickenham.Gatland was rightly furious with the lock as Wales went on to concede 17 unanswered points in his absence either side of half-time.It was thought that Jones might be dropped for the Scotland showdown, but he has avoided the humiliation of being axed. The two changes that Gatland has made see Cardiff Blues wing Leigh Halfpenny returning to the side at the expense of his Blues colleague Tom James and Ospreys forward Jonathan Thomas replacing Jones' second-row partner at Twickenham, Luke Charteris.Charteris pays the price for a poor performance by the Welsh lineout against England.
With a host of FA Cup finals under its belt, allied to a rugby world cup final and a history of staging some of the largest rock roll gigs in UK history, its fair to suggest Cardiff has finally arrived as an event venue of international renown.Looking forwards to 2010 and the events diary is already filling up quickly. News which will no doubt be a massive cash-booster for the Capital city's recession hit retail sector. Holiday on Ice By Robin Cousins MBE. A visual smorgasbord.
